Editorial & Affiliate Policy
The rules we hold ourselves to — what we publish, how we make money, and where the line between the two sits.
Editorial independence
Our recommendations are made on the merits. No brand pays for a placement, a ranking, or a favorable verdict, and no advertiser or affiliate relationship changes what we recommend or how we rank it. When we like something, it's because the research supports it; when we flag a problem, it's because the evidence does.
How we research
Every guide is built from specification analysis, synthesis of large volumes of verified owner reviews, and checks against recall, warranty, and return-policy data. We do not claim hands-on lab testing we haven't performed. The full process is documented on our How We Research page.
Use of AI in our workflow
We use AI tools to assist with research, drafting, and editing. Every published guide is reviewed and shaped by a human editor who is responsible for its accuracy, its recommendations, and its tone. We treat AI as a research and drafting aid — not as an unchecked author. We don't publish raw, unreviewed machine output, and the editorial judgment behind a recommendation is human.
Sourcing & accuracy
We prioritize primary sources — manufacturer specifications, official safety-recall databases, and verified buyer reviews — over secondhand summaries. We aim to reflect long-term owner experience, not launch-day impressions. Specifications and prices change, so we date our updates and revisit guides on a schedule.
Affiliate disclosure
Smart-Threadup participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and other affiliate programs. When you purchase through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Our editorial opinions are never influenced by affiliate relationships.
In practice: some links on this site are affiliate links, and if you buy through one we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions help fund the research but never influence which products we recommend or how we rank them.
Corrections
We fix mistakes. If something here is wrong or out of date, see our Corrections page for how we handle it and how to tell us.
